Tracey Emin's Margate
A personal visit
Her ability to shock is well documented, and much of the inspiration for Tracey Emin’s confessional works stem from her upbringing in Margate on the Kent coast.
In December 2011, and as part of Emin’s duties as guest editor of BBC Radio 4′s Today Programme, the artist took a tour of Margate to find out how local people feel about their town and what it is like growing up there today.
Emin returned to the faded seaside resort to hold her first solo exhibition in Turner Contemporary, a new gallery at the heart of the town’s revival. Emin was interviewed by Stephen Fry at the venue about her exhibition, She Lay Down Deep Beneath The Sea.
