Introduction to Shakespeare Festival
From April to June 2012, Shakespeare’s Globe brought theatre companies from around the world to perform all 37 of Shakespeare’s plays in 37 languages. The Globe to Globe season was part of the World Shakespeare Festival for the London 2012 Festival.
The introduction to the festival is no longer available but you can still see some of the Globe to Globe plays featured on The Space.
Globe to Globe Festival director Tom Bird presents the thinking behind the season of Shakespeare plays by companies from around the world.
He explains that the works of William Shakespeare are international and can be interpreted in many different ways in various countries.
Bird adds that there is “no typical Shakespeare play” and the festival reflects the “sheer variety” of how Shakespeare’s plays are viewed internationally.
