Pass the Spoon

An opera based on a television cooking show, co-created by artist David Shrigley, composer David Fennessy and director Nicholas Bone (82 minutes)
×

Pass the Spoon is a collaboration between off-beat visual artist David Shrigley, award-winning composer David Fennessy and Director Nicholas Bone. It is described by its creators as a ‘sort of opera’.

The action focuses on a meal cooked for larger-than-life character, Mr Granules, during a daytime TV cookery show, with predictably disastrous consequences.

Featuring some strong language, surreal imagery and a story-line you’d expect from Shrigley, it’s almost a pantomime, but with its adult humour it’s certainly not of the cuddly Christmas variety.

This performance took place at The Queen Elizabeth Hall on London’s Southbank Centre in May 2012 and was streamed live on The Space.

Pass the Spoon is supported by Creative Scotland with thanks to PRS for Music Foundation and Hope Scott Trust.
