An Introduction
The World Shakespeare Festival is a celebration of Shakespeare as the world’s playwright, produced by the Royal Shakespeare Company. This huge collaboration brings together leading UK and international arts organisations, as well as the Globe to Globe staging of Shakespeare plays by overseas companies.
The RSC worked with independent production company Rare Day to produce a series of films for The Space called World Shakespeare Festival Television. Documentary filmmakers, video artists and animators provided their own perspective on the Festival, and Shakespeare.
Deborah Shaw, World Shakespeare Festival Director and RSC Associate Director, introduced the Festival and the ideas behind the project for The Space.
The World Shakespeare Festival was supported by BP, as Founding Presenting Partner, and by the National Lottery through the Olympic Lottery Distributor and Arts Council England.
