Artist Tracey Emin has been appointed a CBE in the New Year’s Honours List. The 49-year-old, who comes from the seaside town of Margate in Kent, said: “For me this honour is a symbol of how art can change people’s perception of life and view the world in a different way.”

In the summer, Emin and actor, writer and comedian Stephen Fry were live in conversation from Margate’s Turner Contemporary on The Space.

This is a recording of their talk, which saw the pair talk about Emin’s homecoming exhibition She Lay Down Deep Beneath the Sea, growing up in Margate and the relationship of her work to Rodin and JMW Turner, also on show at the gallery.

Ahead of the event, Emin said: “I’m not just excited, I’m incredibly nervous about being interviewed by one of the most intelligent men in the world. But it does take two to tango.”

Tracey Emin’s exhibition at Margate’s Turner Contemporary is part of the London 2012 Festival.
