THE COMPANY
Marjanishvili Theatre was first established in 1928 and later moved to Tbilisi. It was named after theatre director Kote Marjanishvili, who reformed Georgian drama. Works of national importance and European works from Shakespeare to Euripides have always been part of the company’s repertoire. The theatre embraces new ideas as well as keeping up Georgian theatrical traditions.
THE PLAY
Rosalind, the daughter of a banished duke, falls in love with Orlando, the disinherited son of one of the duke’s friends. When she is banished from court by her scheming uncle, Duke Frederick , Rosalind takes on the appearance of a boy called Ganymede. She travels with her cousin Celia to the Forest of Arden, where her father and his friends live in exile. Orlando is also forced into the forest by his murderous brother, and Rosalind’s disguise leads to a series of mishaps. New friendships are made and families – and lovers – united.
