The York Mystery Plays: Rehearsals
On August 11th 2012 The York Mystery Plays were streamed live on The Space. This new adaptation of York’s traditional cycle of medieval plays, which will involve hundreds of actors and more than one thousand local people, is the largest outdoor theatre event in the UK in 2012. The Olivier Award winning team behind The Railway Children – writer, Mike Kenny and director, Damian Cruden – are joined by director Paul Burbridge to create this huge production.
From Creation to the Last Judgement, the plays form part of the greatest story ever told – the story of God, man and woman and the cosmic battle between good and evil. The plays are a significant part of York’s rich heritage and were first performed in the city in the 14th Century. Large-scale modern revivals date from 1951.
The performance came from York’s Museum Gardens, against the ruins of St Mary’s Abbey.
