From April to June 2012, Shakespeare’s Globe brought theatre companies from around the world to perform all 37 of Shakespeare’s plays in 37 languages. The Globe to Globe season was part of the World Shakespeare Festival for the London 2012 Festival.

THE COMPANY
Istanbul-based Oyun Atolyesi was founded in 1999 by stage star Haluk Bilginer, and has gone on to become a driving force on the Turkish theatrical scene. It has produced a diverse repertoire of plays, from Shakespeare to Berkoff.

THE PLAY

Antony, revelling in his affair with Cleopatra, neglects his Roman responsibilities, angering Octavius Caesar. When Antony’s wife dies, Cleopatra rejoices, but Antony’s desire for political advancement leads him to marry Caesar’s sister. The resulting fragile peace is short-lived as Anthony returns to Egypt, leading to full-scale war.
