TIMON OF ATHENS – TIMON AUS ATHEN

Performed in German by the Bremer Shakespeare Company
(with scene description in English)

THE COMPANY

The Bremer Shakespeare was founded in 1983 and has staged 40 productions of the Bard’s works to date. Seen around the world, the plays are often produced collectively and with minimalist scenery.

THE PLAY

Timon is a prosperous man and generous to his friends. His loyal servant, Flavius, worries about Timon’s reckless spending. Flavius’ fears are realised when Timon’s creditors demand their money back, but he cannot pay them. Timon asks his friends to lend him some money but they all refuse. Disillusioned by his false friends and human nature, he flees to the wilderness where he wallows in hatred for the city he once loved.
