The Old Grey Whistle Twist
Raj Pannu is one of the most respected DJs in the world, having toured as the audio and audio-visual DJ for Coldcut and Ninjatune. Known for his incredible DJ skills, musical insight and ability, Generator and NFM set Raj the challenge of working exclusively with material from ‘The Old Grey Whistle Test’. Many artists would struggle under these confines, but as the resulting work demonstrates, Raj chose to see the potential.
Raj was tasked with producing one new piece of audio-visual work that would be performed live at the final ‘Space Invasion’ event. The film shows how Raj and Novak Collective approached the archive material, which includes classic performances from Bill Withers, Can, Budgie, Michael Chapman, Roxy Music and Pentangle as well as legendary presenter Bob Harris.
In his inimitable style, Raj blends the separate pieces of music and syncs the visuals to create an outstanding audio-visual spectacle.
Old Grey Whistle Twist is part of the Space Invasion project, a series of experimental music, arts and film collaborations in unusual venues across the North East, established by Generator and Northern Film & Media.
