Made from over 100 years of BFI archive footage, award-winning director Penny Woolcock’s film is a portrait of our unique coastline and the role it plays in our lives – during wartime, on our holidays and as a hive of activity during the industrial age.

Band British Sea Power captain this cinematic voyage with their first ever live performance of an original composition. The Space streamed it live, but if you missed the performance you can now watch a recording. You can flick between the film screening with the band’s performance and the film itself.

The film was shown as part of The Sheffield Documentary Festival which ran from June 13-17 and brings the international documentary family together to celebrate the art and business of documentary making.
