The London Requiem
In September, the Rebel Chorus and musicians gathered among the Victorian gravestones to perform glorious choral music inspired by Londoners who have passed away. The London Requiem premiered in September 2012 at Abney Park Cemetery in London and was streamed live on The Space. Here, you can follow the work’s creation and look at supporting material.
The London Requiem is a new piece of classical music composed by Benjamin Till in 10 movements. The music was written largely in graveyards and cemeteries around London and is inspired by quotations found on memorials. It takes the traditional Latin text as its basis and augments it with quotations found on the gravestones.
The London Requiem is presented by Rich Mix, an arts centre in East London. It is Rich Mix’s first venture into classical music. You can leave your comments about the London Requiem on their Facebook page or follow @London_Requiem on Twitter.
The London Requiem video and audio material is produced by Penny Wrout for Elbow Productions.
