General William Booth, founder of the Salvation Army, is buried in Abney Park Cemetery, where The London Requiem will premiere. To mark the centenary of his death, we publish a series of photographs taken in Salvation Army hostels between 1959 and 1982, by acclaimed photographer John Claridge.

Composer Benjamin Till describes how Movement 5, the last movement he wrote, forced him to visit more cemeteries because he had run out of gravestone inscriptions. Quotations come from the headstones of murder victims Damilola Taylor and Keith Blakelock.
